Description:
This data was created for considerations of the establishment of critical habitat for leatherbacks. It contains US West Coast sighting locations. This dataset includes sightings in California, Oregon, and Washington waters.

The western Pacific leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) is one of two distinct stocks of leatherback turtles in the Pacific. Leatherback turtles are found worldwide in both temperate and tropical regions with a large range. Their primary threats include intentional harvest and habitat degradation at nesting beaches and incidental catch in coastal and pelagic fisheries.
