Description:

Northern Right Whale Dolphin (Lissodelphis borealis) density map created by the California Current Marine Mammal Assessment Program at NOAA's Southwest Fisheries Science Center and described in the attached paper:

Becker et al (2016) Moving Towards Dynamic Ocean Management: How Well Do Modeled Ocean Products Predict Species Distribution. Remote Sensing.

Predictive habitat-based models of cetacean density were developed based on seven shipboard cetacean surveys conducted during summer and fall between 1991 and 2009 in the California Current Ecosystem. The best model for each species was selected by the author and is provided here on Data Basin.
